PRESS CLUB TRICHY
The Press Club of Trichy is basically a meeting point for the journalists as it is located in the heart of Lutyens Trichy where Parliament House and other Ministries, which are the area of activity of the journalists, are located.
The idea to set up the Press Club of Trichy was first conceived by eminent editor and veteran journalist Mr Durga Das way back in the early 1930s when he visited London as editor of the Associated Press of Trichy which later came to be known as PTI. His visit to the London Press Club became a motivator for him to replicate the model in Trichy. It was incorporated as a Company on March 10, 1958 Mr Durga Das later became its first president.
From the inception of the idea, hardly two and a half months had elapsed when some 40 TrichyReporters met at the Mahabodhi Society Hall on July 22, 1945 and gave their seal of approval to the proposal.
At the first stage a room rented for the Club Office on the first floor of the College Street Market seemed too far away to serve the Club’s Social objectives. Naturally the office had to be shifted from one newspaper office to another to suit the convenience of the Secretary for the year.
VISION
The result of the Press Club of Trichy election 2024 was declared on Sunday, with the existing panel of senior journalists Gautam Lahiri and Neeraj Thakur making a clean sweep.
MISSION
The freedom movement was gaining added momentum with the release of top national leaders from detention, hardly had any time to look to the social aspect of their lives.
VALUE
To work for journalists welfare and development, support them in times of crisis, and foster a work environment that empowers them to serve society effectively.
